About

Malena Vinocur Ph.D.

Malena Vinocur received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the CUNY Graduate Center in 2012, completing her internship at Bellevue Hospital's general track, working with folks across the developmental spectrum and with a wide range of presenting issues. While on internship, Dr. Vinocur harnessed her specialty in immigration and trauma while working at the Program for Survivors of Torture. During her training, Dr. Vinocur also completed 4 years of Ackerman-style live supervision training in couples and family therapy, including attachment and Gottman method therapy models. For three years, she also led a team of Spanish-speaking clinicians and ran a specialized group therapy program for Latinx families in domestic violence and homeless shelters in Harlem and the Bronx. For five years post graduation, Dr. Vinocur specialized in working with serious mental illness at Maimonides Medical Center (MMC)’s Wellness Recovery Program, where she coordinated the Latinx Program, a group and individual therapy program for Spanish-speaking immigrants. At MMC, Dr. Vinocur also co-Directed the APA-Accredited Clinical Psychology Internship Program for two years, where her expertise in mentorship and training flourished. For the next almost decade, Dr. Vinocur worked in academia in the Clinical/School Psychology Doctoral Programs at Pace University, where she worked as a full-time faculty member (Clinical Associate Professor), and co-ran the Doctoral Student clinic, The McShane Center, as their Director of Training. Among many duties and accomplishments, Dr. Vinocur trained students through a multicultural lens. Working alongside students, she was one of the co-founders of the Asylum Project, a training and clinical service providing trauma-informed psychological evaluations and write-ups for Asylum-seekers. Dr. Vinocur also ran a team-focused Ackerman-style couples training module for students to learn the intricacies of couples work in-vivo. Most recently, Dr. Vinocur left academia to grow a second practice working with non-ordinary states of consciousness and psychedelic medicines. She is KAP-trained (Ketamine-Assisted Therapy) by the Ketamine Training Center (KTC) and The Living Medicine Institute, and continues to be amazed by our innate capacity for healing and growth. Dr. Vinocur's Services include: ~ Therapy ~ As a queer, Latinx immigrant committed to remaining open and self-aware, and attuned to issues of culture and race, Dr. Vinocur approaches cultural issues with great humility, providing excellent culturally-sensitive care. Dr. Vinocur’s experience in the mental health field spans over 20 years, specializing in trauma, multiculturalism, LGBTQIA+ and underserved communities.
